Homecoming

When I think about everything I love about OSU, homecoming is definitely near the top of the list. How can you not love homecoming after the game on Saturday? I am not a huge sports fan, but it feels so great to cheer your team on to victory. Go Pokes!!

Homecoming isn’t just about football though, there is so much more to it than that. The entire campus comes together to welcome the alumni and show just how much pride we have in OSU. It takes a lot of time and effort to have the greatest homecoming in America, and there are so many people who work hard all semester to make it happen.
Homecoming can get crazy; in fact, my roommate had to do 14 hours of pomping the week of homecoming! I was pretty lucky because other than a paper and a project due Monday, my week was pretty open so I had plenty of time to enjoy all the festivities. Walk-around is my all-time favorite. I love looking at all the house decorations and getting to spend time with my family and friends. This year was a little different because I worked a booth for the student foundation during part of the walk-around, but I still loved every minute of it.
One of my good friends form high school came back and went to the walk-around with me. It was great to catch up on old times, and I’m always glad to see her. She used to go to OSU, but she transferred last year. It is strange to me to think of coming back on homecoming because that will mean I’m no longer an OSU student.
I, unlike my roommate, didn’t grow up an OSU fan so when it came time to pick a college, I didn’t know where to go. I knew I wanted to stay close to home so I toured both OU and OSU. After taking both tours and seeing what each had to offer, the choice was easy for me. I fell in love with OSU’s campus (how couldn’t you?), and I could actually see myself getting involved at OSU.
I am a small town girl, and I never thought I’d fit in on a campus of more than 20,000 students, but I was wrong. OSU’s Stillwater setting makes it ideal for someone like me. Sure it’s big, but every day I see so many familiar faces, and I’m constantly amazed at what a small world it is. After three and a half years, OSU has become my second home, and I think leaving OSU will be a very hard adjustment to make.
