Everything I need and more

I enrolled for the last time this week, which made me realize just how close graduation is. Because my time here is almost over, I am trying to notice all of the little things I have previously taken for granted. For example:

I had my second government of the Middle East test this week. It was scary, but I was a lot more prepared for this one. I started studying earlier, and I was able to pick out the important information (the Ottoman Empire and Arab nationalism) from the 12 chapters it covered. Overall, I think it went very well, and while studying, I got to experience something I’d never done before.
For the first time in three and a half years, I studied at the library! I know that sounds horrible, but it’s just that I am a study-at-home kind of girl. I am very easily distracted so I like to be in a room by myself with nothing but my notebook, textbook and a laptop to keep me company. This time though, several of my friends had a test on the same day. They were meeting up at the library, and I figured I might as well join them. We found a table on the fourth floor in the quiet area, which was good because had we been in the silent area, I’m pretty sure we would have angered our neighbors. I was surprised at how much studying I got done, and before I knew it, it was 2 a.m. and the library was closing.
The library is just one of the wonderful resources available to OSU students. I get to ride the bus to school every day, saving me gas money and giving me an extra 20 minutes to study or read. I can head to the Colvin to run on a treadmill, lift weights (not likely) or play volleyball anytime I please. I use a computer lab when I need to print off my class notes or a paper instead of making the long trip back home to do it from my own computer. I get excellent advice on my résumé and interview skills through career services, and this is just scratching the surface. I can’t believe all that I have available to me at OSU!
As I talked to my mom about this, she was quick to remind me that these aren’t free services, but that they’re included in the cost of school. I know the price of college can seem crazy. Why do you have to pay so much just to go to class? The truth is, you’re paying for so much more than class, and OSU’s tuition and fees are considerably lower than most schools in the Big 12. It’s a package deal that includes pretty much everything a student needs to be successful not only in school, but also in life. I am so lucky to have parents and donors who believe in the value of higher education and are willing to invest in me. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be.

Jack is my favorite bus driver because

It seems the Colvin is always busy, even on a Friday afternoon! |
