New Beginnings
August 24, 2009
This week marked the start of several new experiences and undertakings for me. I stated that Graphic Design is my major, but I didn't mention that I had made the decision to change from Apparel Design and Production mid-semester this past spring. So last week was my first week in any graphic design class and really as an official Graphic Design student. And I love it! I'm in labs four times a week, but they're Art labs! Not to mention, I'm surrounded by new people.
When the subject of changing majors comes up in conversation with friends or acquaintances, I've always been one to encourage the person to do what makes him/her happy. I think it's very important, regardless of the circumstances to find your passion in whatever you do because it's quite possible that you'll be employed in that field of study for a majority of your life. In all reality though, I never imagined I would be one to change my major. But I'm very glad I did, I'm excited to be in the Graphic Design program at OSU and look forward to what lies ahead. I will say, I was sad to leave the College of Human Environmental Sciences; however, I have no doubt the College of Arts & Sciences will be just as welcoming. Getting acclimated into a new college will just take a little time.
This year I am thrilled to be serving the OSU Student Foundation as Donor Relations Chair, a position that I couldn't be more excited about. We had our Executive Retreat on Sunday, August 16th. Little did we know when we arrived at the Foundation that Abby Fox and Michal Shaw, our advisers, had quite an adventure in store for us. The 6 of us went rowing, along with a couple experienced rowers, in a 60 ft., 8 person boat! It was awesome. Here are some pictures from the afternoon.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my new room since I've arrived back in Stillwater. Last year, I had a roommate that I hadn't previously met and it turned out great! She is an awesome girl and we still keep in touch, but I decided to get a single room this year since the price wasn't much different. I definitely feel spoiled; the room is twice as big and I have my own bathroom! I'm actually still in Village HES, so the Bartlett Center is a bit of a hike but it's all good.
Here are a couple pictures of my room.

It has only taken a week for things to get fast and furious, but I'm already having the time of my life once again. Meeting new people, learning, and living life is what college is all about, and I love every minute of it here at Oklahoma State! Now I'm just ready for football season to start -

GO POKES!
