One Rockin' Weekend
September 8, 2009
This week I occupied almost every ounce of my time working on projects, going to meetings, class and attempting to find time for sleep in between those activities. The anticipated events that I knew this past weekend would bring, however, gave me perseverance to get through the week.
Tuesday was the first Merchandise and Apparel Design Association meeting of the year! It was great to see so many familiar faces, and a highlight of the meeting was the discussion of summer internships. It's always inspirational and extremely useful to learn about varying firsthand experiences of students who have acquired internships.
Then, the STUFU (OSU Student Foundation) general meeting followed. We were happy to have Kirk Jewell, the President and CEO of the Foundation, speak and welcome everyone into a new year! After that our attention turned to the anonymous pieces of foam board which had an image printed on them. We were all asked to try and put the pieces of foam board together as pieces of a puzzle in order to see what the image revealed. This is why I love Student Foundation, haha! Everything is done in a fun and creative way. As more and more pieces began to fall into place, the anticipation and excitement grew! When the text at the bottom formed “The New Home of the Student Foundation” and a house was obviously visible, I couldn't believe it!! It was explained that once renovated, the basement in the Murphy House across from the Foundation will be our home away from home; a space to have separate committee meetings, study, work on projects, etc. I truly feel more blessed every day to be a part of this organization. The opportunities that the Foundation actively seeks out in order to help us succeed are incredible. Here's a couple pics of STUFU members putting the picture together, and of all us excited after the surprise!

The end of the week brought more meetings and deadlines, but to be honest I was just ready for a great concert and some COWBOY Football!
Friday morning I was on the road, headed to Lawrence, Kansas, which is about fifteen minutes away from The Buzz Beach Ball concert my friends and I went to in Bonner Springs. Since my friends attend Kansas University I don't get to see them often; this weekend was definitely one I'll remember. The concert lasted all day Friday and featured 11 bands! Blink-182, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday, The Von Bondies, Matt & Kim, Chester French, Company of Thieves, Billy Boy On Poison, The Republic Tigers, Stellastarr, and Maclethal all performed at the Sandstone Amphitheater. By the end of the night there were about 20,000 people present. Can't compare to an OSU gameday, but this definitely wasn't stadium seating haha. The music was incredible and I am so glad that everything worked out and I was able to go!! Here are some pictures from the main bands that played, they were all great though!

You may be wondering if I went back to Stillwater on Saturday for the game, and unfortunately I didn't, but I assure you I was no less of a Cowboy fan in Kansas haha. I watched the game and cheered my heart out. The extraordinary sea of orange made the everpresent pride at Oklahoma State University apparent to thousands/millions of viewers watching nationwide. We weren't on the cover of Sports Illustrated for nothing! -- Now #5 in the country!!

GO POKES!
