An Eclectic Mix

September 28, 2009

Over the past week, I have probably had both the most eventful and uneventful experiences I could imagine.

Tuesday I had a big Art History test that I had been preparing for the whole week prior; however, Tuesday, September 22, had been on my mind far longer than a week before. When I first discovered that three of my favorite bands were all playing under one roof, I could hardly contain my excitement...until I saw the date. The concert was on a Tuesday; I knew this made the possibilities of my attendance bleak. I didn't rule it out completely, but I didn't want to be foolish about the decision, since my sleep schedule during a normal week isn't the greatest. As the concert got a little closer I realized that it was going to work out, with my Art History test being out of the way. I was pumped! So on Tuesday I went to Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa and saw the Silversun Pickups, Cage the Elephant, and Manchester Orchestra. Each and every one of the bands was truly incredible. I'm so grateful for getting the chance to hear such amazing talent. I have to say that that concert displayed the best musical performances I have ever witnessed. The sheer fact that I saw all three of those bands at once is still hard to believe, because I would have gladly gone to any one alone. Here are a couple pics!

Cage the Elephant!

Wednesday went well, with daydreams of the concert in my head, haha. After I got out of class I headed to the Study Abroad Fair in the Student Union atrium. I enjoyed going to that last year as well. It always seems to get my mind flowing with ideas. It's so wonderful to think that a basically boundless world that I have yet to experience, exists and is full of opportunities! Last summer I planned to do a study abroad program with American Intercontinental University in Paris, France for five weeks, but I found out about it too late to get sufficient scholarships, etc. This year I planned on “hitting the ground running” in order to make it work out; however, since my major has changed the courses for that program don't correspond anymore. As I was discussing this dilemma and other possibilities with a couple advisors, I came upon an extraordinary opportunity. Oil painting in Tuscany, Italy, for three weeks through the College of Arts and Science's Outreach Program! The details sound phenomenal, but I'm still looking into it. I'll definitely mention any further progressions in that area!

Thursday Larry Brown from the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce served as the guest speaker at my CKI meeting. He spoke on the topic of Count Stillwater, 2010 Census. I've been passionate about this campaign to get an accurate count of people residing in this wonderful city since I first heard about it last spring. The Chamber of Commerce has been very active in trying to spread the word about Count Stillwater. They will continue to be a presence in the community, on campus, and you'll even get a reminder to fill out your census if you eat at McDonald's or order out at Hideaway Pizza! Here are some pictures from the meeting. One is of all the giveaways the Chamber of Commerce would be happy to provide if anyone would like to get involved within their own workplace or environment, and spread the word about a great way to positively impact Stillwater.

My weekend consisted totally and solely of homework. Primarily all of that time was spent on my 3D Vintage Toy Design project, which is unfortunate because I have an outside assignment in my Drawing class due and three tests all this coming week. It makes it hard to prioritize when there's truly not enough time to get everything accomplished. Although, taking one thing at a time and doing what must be done first is always beneficial. The Edmon Low Library will be my home this coming week, but that's alright with me!

And...“How 'bout them Cowboys!!” GO POKES
